Project Title:
Mechanisms of Social Cognition
Project Abstract:

During my stay in 2014 I plan to work on a book on Social Cognition that I am planning to write together with my husband, Chris Frith. I hope to develop a framework which allows links to be made from evolution, development and pathology. In discussions with other fellows I expect to benefit greatly from their views on deep questions, such as, what makes human beings social, what mechanisms are dependent on innate predispositions, and what mechanisms are instilled purely by culture. The main topics I am interested in are Mentalising (aka Theory of Mind), the We-mode (relevant for cooperation with ingroups and competition with outgroups), Metacognition and Communication (relevant for explicit teaching).
