The research aims to analyse the textual and visual materials related to protests and dissidence in Kosovo from the late 1980s to the late 1990s. It focuses on the media representation of this period in Kosovo, within the context of Yugoslavia, in order to understand how the mechanisms of reporting on repression operated. The study also seeks to explore whether there was any space in the media narratives beyond the ethnicisation and victimisation that dominated the 1990s. Furthermore, it examines how the international response to Milošević’s regime evolved vis-a-vis Kosovo throughout the decade, how the social reality of the apartheid-like regime was discussed, and how Albania’s emerging political reality was positioned within this context.
