Persianate Literatures Compared: Narrating Difference from South Asia to the Caucasus
Project Abstract:

Persianate Literatures Compared studies the circulation of Persian narratives globally across the eastern Islamic ecumene and locally within South Asia and the Caucasus, with particular attention to the negotiation of linguistic, cultural, and religious difference within these diverse domains. While documenting the transregional movement of Persian narratives alongside their vernacularization, this work attends to the variety of approaches to literary representation that were made available by Persian narrative forms as Persian and Persianate poets engaged with difference from South Asia to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
