My project How to Watch ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ explores the politics and parameters of the essay form. Taking the written word as its starting point, the study will merge critical and expressive modes of the essay through staging an intermedial tension between text, image, and sound. As a primarily text-based practice, this project will comprise an artist book publication, while its processes and methods will be tested out through complementary lecture/performances, expanded cinema happenings, audio works, seminars, reading groups, and a symposium.
