The Munk Saga
Project Abstract:

The Munk Saga is a seven-channel multimedia installation project about the history and culture of Hungarian Jewry over the past three hundred years, shown through the Munk family’s history from the 1720s to the present. By combining micro and macro levels of history, i.e. the story of an ordinary Jewish family intertwined with the history of Hungary and the Habsburg Empire, The Munk Saga is an account of how generations of Hungarian Jews were involved in the scientific and technological advancements of their times and how they contributed to social, economic and cultural change, as the country progressed from backward periphery to one of the cultural centres in Central Europe. Family members who played a central role in the unfolding of the Munk family history will become the main protagonists of their respective individual episodes. To ensure authenticity, the project will rely on archival documents, photos, correspondence, objects, etc. related to the Munks and preserved at the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives (MILEV) as well as at the Blinken OSA Achivum.
