Appointment of Professor Balázs Trencsényi as Director of IAS CEU

IAS CEU is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Balázs Trencsényi as Director of IAS CEU, in effect as of 1 August, 2023. Trained at the Central European University as a historian of East Central European political and cultural thought, Balázs Trencsényi joined the Department of History at CEU in 2004.

The workshop "Art and Power in Medieval Societies: Censorship, Propaganda and Public Service in the Eastern Mediterranean from Late Antiquity to the Ottoman Era" was held on May 19-20 at IAS CEU in Budapest, organized by GIAS Fellow Dr. Mariana Bodnaruk, Dr. Anna Adashinskaya from New Europe College in Romania, Senior Core Fellow Dr. Yuka Kadoi, and Senior Core Fellow Dr. Peter Martens.

Honorable Mention for study by GIAS Fellow Masood

GIAS Fellow Syeda Masood has a new publication out. Her article “I am Born on the Land of Pakistan. I am Pakistani: Terric Nationalism among Hindu Pakistanis”, has been published earlier this year in Ethnic and Racial Studies, and has received an Honorable Mention from the Society for the Study of Social Problems in the Global Division’s Student Paper Competition. Syeda Masood will present her paper during the Society’s annual meeting on August 18-20, 2023 in Philadelphia, PA, together with her other publication “Who is Muslim? Imperial Gaze vs. the Occupied”.
