Project Title:
Theorizing the Sharing Economy: A Multidisciplinary Perspective
Project Abstract:

The research aims to contribute to enhancing theoretical explanations for the existence of Sharing Economy practices, organizations and institutions in the context of a broader understanding of the evolution of the business enterprise. Based on a multidisciplinary approach, theoretical elaboration and development of our understanding the Sharing Economy would help scholars resolve areas of controversy in industrial organization. More specifically, how do we intellectually place the Sharing Economy in a broader analysis/tradition of understanding socio-economic institutions and industrial typologies? Does the Sharing Economy fundamentally alter our understanding of markets versus hierarchies and, if so, in which ways does the Sharing Economy imply a reshaping of the organizational form of the business enterprise itself?
