Towards a New World Order
Project Abstract:

I am working on a book entitled "Towards a New World Order" (for Cambridge University Press). It seeks to offer a new interpretation of the first and ultimately frustrated aspirations to forge a “peace to end all wars” in the 20th century – those pursued at the Paris Peace Conference. I argue that at the core of these aspirations lay the struggle over the terms and rules of a novel transatlantic order, which also had a crucial impact on attempts to reorder central and Eastern Europe after the Great War. And I re-appraise why it ultimately proved impossible to found a stable and legitimate peace in 1919 and what consequences this had for 20th-century international history.
