Workshop at IAS CEU on Theories, Foundations, and Problems of Social Criticism

The workshop at IAS CEU on Theories, Foundations, and Problems of Social Criticism on 20 March 2026 assembled scholars in the field of Continental philosophy in order to examine the foundations, transformations, and challenges of social critique. It treated critique as a historically situated practice concerned with power, knowledge, and subject formation, and it engaged phenomenological, structuralist, deconstructive, feminist, and postcolonial perspectives. The workshop explored the role that critique plays in theory and culture, while attempting to clarify its significance for interpreting, contesting, and reshaping everyday life.
