Meet IAS CEU alumna Anna Kryvenko

IAS CEU alumna, visual artist Anna Kryvenko (Artist in Residence in academic year 2024/25) explores the hidden narratives of war and occupation in her project This House is Undamaged. Through a hybrid documentary approach, she deconstructs social media images and real estate advertisements to reveal how Mariupol, devastated by the Russian invasion, has been "rebuilt" and repopulated. By examining everyday traces, such as the sale of children’s clothing and the booming funeral industry, she invites viewers to confront the city’s transformation with a critical, analytical gaze rather than through overt emotion.
