Project Title:
Mapping dis/placement
Project Abstract:

This project delves into the history of Budapest by referencing old and contemporary maps, archives and documents. With reference to the idea of mapping in the broadest sense of the word, this is an attempt to place the human within nature. In dis/placement I study the flora of a region, in conversation with the architecture and history of the place through its maps. My maps are invented, fictional landscapes that facilitate new ways of seeing the world. I explore through my work the experience of a place: the layers of history, memory and association that places create in each of us.
I have always been intrigued by the different kinds of histories that a particular site presents. Over a period of time, physical spaces evolve into sites for exploration and provide an opportunity for first-hand mapping to take place. Dislocation enables exchange, and a closer look at the conditions that make life possible. It allows a deeper reflection on the human condition and our relationship to the natural world. The outcome of the project, the art work will be in the form of interactive hand-made, hand-bound book installations.
